Myanmar 2002
Thank you so much for praying for our trip to Myanmar (Burma) for New Mission Systems’ tri-annual conference. We have been pondering how to meaningfully summarize this amazing experience in a letter!
Many here in Tucson have asked “What was the highlight of the trip?” The best thing by far was meeting and getting to know all of the missionaries and affiliates of New Mission Systems. What a tremendous group and what a privilege it is to encourage and minister to them.
About Myanmar
Myanmar is the most practicing Buddhist country in the world. We saw gold covered pagodas, temples and shrines all over the cities and countryside. Our national Myanmar missionaries, James and Marta Khong, oversee fruitful outreaches to unreached people groups throughout the entire country from the capital city, Yangoon.
Everywhere we went, the people of Myanmar were warm, gracious and hospitable. The simple lifestyle and slow pace of the culture were very refreshing.
The Conference
This conference served as a time of rest and spiritual refreshment and training for our field missionaries. For example, Tim and Lorna Mantai, based in Kenya, have worked day and night for the past two years to distribute food for famine relief as they carried on their ministry. They said it was a blessing just to physically REST.
We now feel that a foundation of relationship has been built for us to give care to these precious people who are serving the Lord around the world. Please continue to pray that the Lord will equip us and give us wisdom.
